New Year | Keeping Resolutions

It's so easy to see the turn of the new year as a chance to start afresh, but how many of us actually keep our resolutions? Apparently, 80% of new year resolutions fail by February, so if you want to stick with yours this year, stick with this post and see what you should be doing...

Be Realistic
Planning to run a marathon if you've never been running before might be a step too far, especially if you have work and life commitments that get in the way. Set aside and schedule an hour a week to work towards a target resolution and slowly up the time over the next few months.

Don't Repeat Resolutions
Maybe your last new years resolutions failed for a reason and you will feel even more disappointed in yourself if you fail for a second time. Instead, tweak it to something that you feel more positive about and something that is more achievable.

Keep Track
Planning and maintaining is key. I like to write things down and make lists to keep track of goals but there are also plenty of apps to do the hard work for you and set reminders and timers. Having things written down enables you to see what you are doing and also makes it seem more real.

Tell Others
You are much more likely to continue something with the support of family and friends. Set up a messaging group to update others on your progress or blog about it. Having other people regularly ask will keep you from wanting to fail.

Treat Yourself
Feeling miserable is easily enough to throw you off course and ruin your mood and motivation. Treat yourself with something nice at the end of a successful week. It's something to keep in mind and look forward to during the week.

What are your resolutions this year?

  1. These are good tips! I don't really set resolutions each year. I am hoping this year to spend less on fashion than I did last year though, that was my goal last year and I did manage to achieve it :)

Hope that your week is going well! We are in the middle of another summer heatwave here in Australia!
