Life | Minimal

Minimalism certainly isn't for everyone but most people I speak to say that after a de-clutter their head always feels in a much better place. It's not always about living in an empty house with nothing in the cupboards or having a capsule wardrobe, but simply changing up your habits a little or having a big clear out one weekend can free up your head-space and de-stress instantly. Read on to find out how...

Priorities
It's so easy to pick up an item that you intend to throw out and tell yourself 'I might need it one day' and put it back where you've found it. But do you need it really? Could it be put to better use, sold or would someone else benefit from it more? Often the items that we hang onto are forgotten about and are just collecting dust.

Pre-Plan
I've read a couple of interesting posts recently touching on this topic and I wanted to talk about it too. A few years ago I decided to stop shopping as a hobby, instead I started to buy only what was necessary or something of good quality that I felt would last. Of course it's hard to keep up and to stick to but overall, I feel that my life is less cluttered and the things that I own, I'm happy with and don't need to re-buy.

Saving For 'Best'
Succinctly - don't do it. Life is short and you don't know what's around the corner. Wear the special dress, burn the expensive candle and eat the luxurious chocolates. Use things up and don't let sentimentality be confused with cluttering.

Not Just Stuff
For most people, when we think of minimalist living, we think of a nice white house with some pot plants, no mess and a elegant wardrobe. But minimalism can be applied to all aspects of life including technology, relationships and work. Pinpoint what you feel isn't working smoothly and obstructing your brain from focusing on what's important and take it from there.

What Do You Really Want?
To start off with, make your aims realistic. Maybe you want to sort out one room before the end of the year or finally de-clutter your wardrobe. Write a list before you start of what you want to achieve by the end of the process and it will be easier to visualise it and work towards that goal.

Do you like a minimal life?

  4. These are great tips. When it comes to home decor and furniture, I'm minimalist __ I prefer to have more space in the rooms, than furniture.

  10. Keeping things in order and only buying what's necessary are very important points.
It would be interesting to try a more minimal lifestyle.

  11. I am a minimalist at heart, but I do have my "hoarder" moments too. It is so important to organize everything well and surround yourself with items that are useful and bring you joy. There is definitely so much more to learn xx

  13. Ooh I adore your blue-toned box files; they're so beautiful! Also loving your points here on minimalism, particularly how the concept just apply to 'stuff' and other areas of life as well :)

  17. De-cluttering is always a great idea, I like the idea but I also find hard to let my loved item go and I love pretty much everything I have bought because I only buy if I fall in love and I tend to use them until they are very old and I have to put them in the bin. Lovely post xoxo Cris
