Summer In The City | Get The Most Out Of Your London Trip

While we'd all love to leap from one city to another during the summer, it's not always that easy to make our money last. It's expensive, first of all, and there's so much to do - most of which cost money. By doing a bit of research first and setting a budget for how much you're allowed to spend while you're there, it becomes a bit easier to get more out of your holiday and perhaps even put aside some money for your next trip.

The summer has, as you know, just begun; get started with the preparations right away and you'll be able to start enjoying it.

Save As Much As Possible On Accommodation
The sad truth about holidays in London is that half of our budget is spent on the stuff we enjoy the least; transportation and accommodation. It really doesn't make any sense to spend so much money on having a roof over your head and a bed to sleep in so you should consider opting out of the expensive hotels and rather staying in an Airbnb.

Consider staying slightly outside of the city center as well to make it even more affordable as most of the Airbnbs in the middle of the city will eat most of your budget. By moving a bit west and staying somewhere with good links to the center, you'll be able to save a ton on accommodation so have a look at this list of the most affordable places.

Keep in mind that you can easily cut even more costs by choosing a place that offers cooking facilities, by the way. This is a good idea if you're travelling with a group of people as you can share the cost of staying in a flat together - and help each other out with the cooking.

Find The Free Cultural Offers
While you have probable had a look around the web already to figure out what's on in London while you are there, it's smart to think about the stuff you can do for free. A lot of cultural events and offers are available for absolutely nothing - and if it's not, you might be able to get a discount by going as a group.

Places such as Tate Modern, The National Gallery, and The British Museum are typically free of charge as well as a few visits to castles and palaces. All you have to do is pay for your own transportation by using public transport, take some pocket money for lunch, and you're good to go.

Use Your Legs
Last but not least, you'll save a ton of money by using your legs rather than topping up that Oyster card the whole time. You'd want to catch the tube for longer trips, of course, but you can easily get the most out of London by walking rather than taking the tube for just a few stations.

Consider using a bicycle as well, by the way, and you'll be able to get some exercise while also saving money. It's an obvious win-win.

London doesn't have to be too expensive as long as you know where to look; save as much as you can on the boring stuff such as accommodation and food, and you'll be able to splurge in the areas that actually matter. Like all of those excellent vintage shops, curious markets, concerts, and whatever else you prefer to actually pay for.

Have you visited London before?

  3. You make a great point about saving on accommodation. I find it often can come down between splashing out on activities or on accommodation, and with cities it nearly always makes more sense to splash out on activities as there's SO much to do. Great advice, babe! Hope you're having a lovely week so far :)
