With spring in full swing, many of us are looking forward to the summer and currently researching and planning holidays and so today I thought I would share a few of my favourite tips for travelling. I'm naturally a bit of a worrier when it comes to new places and so I always make sure that I'm really prepared so that I can truly enjoy the trip I've planned. Read on to check out some of my ideas for making your holiday the best it can be....
Downloadable Maps
Some locations abroad don't often have the best signal and the last thing you want to be doing is standing on a crowded street corner looking and feeling lost. CityMaps2Go is a great app for saving your planned locations and downloading them in map form onto your phone or tablet. There are lots of similar apps out there to save you from any hassle when you arrive at a new place.
──────
Prioritise
Is it an experience you won't be able to get anywhere else? If the answer is yes then for me, it's worth spending a little extra money. Who knows if you'll ever return, so take the chance whilst you can.
──────
Plan But Don't Overplan
It's good to make a short list of things that you really want to do before you go. Usually, there's a reason why you've chosen that place and there are places that you want to see. However, it's good to leave a few gaps in your itinerary though as you might be recommended something to do by a local or spot something exciting when you arrive.
Clever Packing
I don't like to take a checked in suitcase for summer trips if I can help it, I feel that it slows you down and you end up not using most of the stuff inside anyway. Check the weather of your destination before you leave and pack versatile clothes. For toiletries, sample sizes and throw away sachets save space for anything extra bought whilst away.
──────
Make Copies Of Documents
Keep print outs in your suitcase if you're carrying them around with you or vice versa. Alternatively, email the copies to yourself so you can access them at any point if there's an emergency.
──────
Check Out The City Passes
Some cities offer passes where a lump sum will get you into many of the famous attractions and museums. Make sure to do your research first as I've found that a few of them aren't worth it or haven't included what I've wanted to do. Most of the time though, they seem to be the best bet and can be bought for either 24, 48 or 72 hours.
What are your best travel tips?
