Reading | Benefits

As I've written about in many posts before, I think that reading is such a great pastime and something which we should all be spending more time doing in this ever increasing age of social media. I've spoken about my favourite books, current reads and classic books vs. modern fiction but today I wanted to write about the benefits of reading to hopefully inspire and encourage some more of it in our lives.

Combats Stress
A great way to relive the stress of daily life is to pick up a book. One study showed that reading could reduce stress by up to 68% as it stops us focusing on our lives and allows us to distract ourselves in another world.

Expands Intelligence
It's important to never stop learning and reading is such a good way to store information in our brains as we actually see the words on the page and take them in rather than hearing something second hand. You never know when some knowledge you've picked up from a book will come in handy.

─────

Memory
So many studies have proved that daily reading is beneficial to both short and long term memory. It's like going to the gym for your brain!

─────

Sleep Aid
Looking at a TV or tablet screen will keep your brain moving but reading a book tells your body that it's time to unwind and relax. However, be careful not to lose yourself in an exciting thriller until 3am!

What do you like to read?

  5. I love how you hope to inspire others to read more. Consider your mission accomplished, because this has definitely given me the kick I needed to start scheduling more 'down time' before falling asleep simply to read :) Beautiful, calming post!
