Relax | Winter Evening Blues

After all the madness and excitement of December, January feels like a rather deflated month. It feels like ages until the summer months but still things have to go on. Today I wanted to talk about a few things that can be done to beat the winter evening blues and relax, so read on to check out what they are...

Aromatherapy Bath
Essential oils have been used for centuries as they have a variety of health benefits. Lavender and chamomile are calming, jasmine de-stresses and peppermint is energy boosting and refreshing. Simply add a few drops to your bath, or if that's not for you, spray them on your towels or bedding.

A Book
Reading a book before bed is proven to decrease stress and will also stop you from checking social media. For me, fiction is the best form of escapism but adult colouring books and journals also do the trick.

Herbal Tea
Like the essential oils, there are many different types depending on what you are looking for but my favourites this month have to be green tea and peppermint, for energy and antioxidants and blackberry tea for lots of vitamin c.

Relaxing Sounds
I like to have something to listen to when I go to sleep but it can't be too exciting or I'll want to stay awake and listen. I use the RelaxMelodies app when I just want noises such as rain or campfire but I've recently been listening to the Sleep With Me Podcast which has been so effective, it even helped me fall asleep on an aeroplane!

Lavender Products
Lavender reduces anxiety and stress and improves sleep so it's the perfect scent to have to hand at this time of year. A candle is a good way to kick the scent around the house and some lavender oil mixed with water and then sprayed on your pillow will make you feel like you're drifting off to sleep in a spa...

How do you relax?

  10. These are all so on point! We've recently fallen in love with essential oils, and I even use them in my classroom to calm the kiddos. I also think there's no better therapy than curling up with a good book and getting lost for a while. The perfect list to combat the winter blues!

  17. Completely relating; December is such a magical month, than January is massively deflating afterwards haha. An aromatherapy bath sounds like absolute heaven, and you're totally right about reading a book in bed before falling asleep :)
